In October 2024, Pioneer Natural Resources USA marked a significant achievement with the completion of the #4006RH well in Midland County, situated in the Emma (Barnett Shale) field. This well, originally submitted in the wildcat field #00018001, showcased impressive initial production figures, flowing at 994 barrels of oil and 6,052 thousand cubic feet of gas, with a gas-to-oil ratio of 6,089 and an aggregate equivalent of 2,003 barrels of oil per day. The perforations from the well reached depths between 12,254 and 21,735 feet, with a kickoff point established at 11,250 feet.

While the #4006RH well demonstrated remarkable outputs, it has yet to surpass the record set by Occidental Permian Ltd's #3399OP South Curtis Ranch well in Martin County. During its recent 24-hour potential test, the well produced an impressive 2,883 barrels of oil and 8,031 mcfg, with a gas-oil ratio (GOR) of 2,785 resulting in a total of 4,222 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boed). Reported to the RRC March 2024, the well reached a total depth (TVD) of 11,672 and 25,129 total depth (MD), with perforations ranging from 12,173 to 24,884 feet, tapping into the Barnett Shale formation. The lateral length of the well extends 2.4 miles, showcasing significant potential for future productivity in the region.

Currently, there approximately 73 producing wellbores in the four-county area of Andrews, Ector, Martin, and Midland managed by 12 companies. As of 2023, the area has seen a surge in activity with about 75 new drilling permits issued to operators, indicating a growing interest in oil and gas exploration. (See map below):

The Texas Railroad Commission (RRC) reports significant production figures since 2016, totaling 12,167,682 barrels of oil, 42,219,576 thousand cubic feet (mcf) of casinghead gas, 39,971,542 mcf of gas produced, and 8,553,154 barrels of condensate. This data highlights the robust activity and potential within this oil-rich region.
